Collin McDonnell is one of the folks behind tiny HenHouse Brewing Company and a night brewer at the ever-growing Drake’s Brewing. Between shifts at his two brewery jobs, he’s producing one-liners and occasional Walls of Tweet that more of you should be reading.
Collin’s a nice fella and he gives props to what he likes (recently: Stone Pale Ale, Ballast Point) but I do enjoy it when he’s got a bone to pick with the industry.
That people keep talking about how hard it is to brew good <5%ABV beers is hilarious. Selling them, definitely, but brewing no.
The most taps/biggest tap takeover arms race that’s going on is really dumb. Everyone loses in a dick measuring contest.
Been asked the question several times this week: I don’t think <10 bbl breweries are sustainable without another source of income. Nano breweries are a cool proof of concept or addition to another business (restaurant usually) but very unsustainable solo. I know I sound like a jerk running a 2bbl brewhouse and telling other people not to, but I keep being asked and that’s my honest answer.
Now go follow @CollinMcDonnell and drink some HenHouse beers if you can find any, they’re really damn delicious. Cheers and happy Friday.
