Photo Friday: Yesterday’s East Bay Beer

Jen’s been doing a considerable amount of historical digging for an upcoming special feature on Oakland and Berkeley’s pre-Prohibition breweries. Last Saturday I trekked with her through the East Bay, camera in hand, as we visited the places where these breweries used to be to see what’s become of them and the surrounding neighborhoods. It was a pretty damn interesting day to day the least, and we definitely came upon some surprises along the way. Ninety or so years in California can swallow up entire neighborhoods let alone breweries, but there is at least one former brewery site in Berkeley where you can still find beer today…clue’s in the photo for the savvy/literate.

Plenty more historical/photographical/beerical goodness on the way in the coming weeks…

I look forward to hearing mmore about historic beer sites from the past. Will Green Death (brewed especially for 2013 sfbeerfest) be available anywhere in the East Bay?
